History of Montessori Academy

Charles and Colette Assaf saw a Montessori kindergarten in Croydon, New South Wales which motivated them to establish Montessori Academy in 2000. The calmness, concentration, and independence demonstrated by the children in the Montessori system made a lasting impact on them. It led them to think of providing an Australia-wide, premium Montessori alternative to traditional play-based daycare (Montessori Academy, 2024).

Montessori Academy started with one centre and has now become the most recognised and largest organization for Montessori early education in Australia. Now, more than 60 centre’s in New South Wales, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory offer specialised Montessori programs for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, fostering confidence, independence, a love for learning, and a holistic safety-enhanced approach (Montessori Academy, 2025). Over 5000 children between six months and six years are enrolled. Montessori Academy focuses on seamless operational functions in addition to providing high-quality early education. In 2025, the group became the first childcare organization in Australia to achieve ISO certification for Quality, Environmental Management, and Occupational Health.
